What Would Happen If You Were Completely Honest?

We lie. A lot. Up to 200 times per day. And it's bad for us. So what would happen if you were completely honest? Even for just a day? Writer James Altucher, who took the total honesty approach, believes the following things happen: People will stop speaking to you. People might think you're going to kill yourself (because everything you write will read like a suicide note). People will think you're crazy. You'll frighten people. You'll entertain people. People will trust your advice. You'll become free. While I'm not sure most people will think everything you write reads like a suicide note due to the honesty approach, I think the rest of it seems pretty true. I don't always share my opinion and sometimes keep things to myself, but I make a major effort not to lie. I don't always succeed, but I feel better when I do. It's not because I feel like I'm doing the right thing for other people, but because I feel like I don't have to hide anything. I like that. What about you? Could you become completely honest? What do you think would happen if you did?

Act Like You're Being Recorded When in the Heat of an Argument

When you find yourself in an argument, nothing helps more than keeping your cool. That's easier said than done, of course. Redditor platinum95 suggests you'll have an easier time if you pretend that somebody's recording you. I found that I used to let my voice go high-pitched, I'd say some stupid things, make false points or let myself get worked up. But when I started acting like i was being recorded, I would stay a lot more calm, make more concise and generally better points, and generally seem smarter. It's made me a lot better at settling arguments. While not something I've had an opportunity to test out, I think this is a really clever idea. I always make an effort to remain as calm as possible but sometimes slip up when I feel like I need to let the anger out—something that doesn't actually help, by the way. I plan to keep this trick in mind for the future.

There's even a Photoshop file included in the zip file, so you can add your own image and make your own version of the instructional wallpapers.

Set Up Google's Account Recovery Options to Avoid Getting Locked Out

Whether we like to admit it or not, many of us depend heavily on Google accounts to make our way around the web. If you got locked out, you'd be in a lot of trouble—so if you haven't already, here's everything you should do right now to make sure it's recoverable. Many of you have probably done this already, but consider this a PSA: if you haven't already, this weekend you should make it a priority to set up your recovery options. Google has detailed some good tips on their official blog for keeping your account secure, including adding a secondary email address, as well as a phone number: All you need to do is head to your Account Overview page and click the "Add" link next to "Recovery Email Address" and "Phone Number." This ensures if you ever get locked out that you can get back in. Make sure to keep them up to date, too. Hit the link for more details from the Official Google Blog.

How to Clear Your Spotify Cache and Save Hard Disk Space

When you play a song on Spotify, it uses some of your hard drive space to cache that file for faster playing later. Here's how to clear that cache if you need some extra disk space. By default, Spotify limits its cache to 10% of your free space, which means the default setting should be okay—but if you've changed it, you could run into disk space problems. All you need to do is delete the files in the following folder (for your platform): Windows: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage OS X: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client/Storage/ Linux: ~/.cache/spotify/Storage/ If Spotify's automatic cache is too small for you, you can change it in the preferences, but be sure to clear it out if you start reaching the end of your hard disk!
